code/SDFMandelbrot2D
The distance to the Mandelbrot set.
Sdf2d
Returns the estimated signed distance from a sampled 2D position to the Mandelbrot set: the points c for which repeatedly squaring and adding c, starting from 0, never flies off. A higher power gives the multibrot sets, and the variant gives the Burning Ship or the Tricorn instead. The twin of geo/SDFMandelbrot2D, for use inside a geo/SDFBuilder sub-network. The value is an estimate, so the raymarcher takes shorter steps where it is used.
Parameters
| Name | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| P | Vector2 | Position to sample the field at. Left unwired it reads the builder's own sample position. |
| t | Vector2 | Where the center point lands. |
| scale | Float | Size of one unit of the complex plane. Raise it to zoom in. |
| center | Vector2 | The point of the complex plane placed at t: x is the real part, y the imaginary part. |
| power | UInt8 | Exponent of the iteration, rounded to a whole number. 2 is the classic set. |
| iterations | UInt8 | How many steps each point is followed for. More steps sharpen the fine filaments. A wired value is capped at 256. |
| variant | UInt8 MANDELBROT · BURNING_SHIP · TRICORN | Which set to draw. Mandelbrot is the classic one. Burning Ship makes both parts of each point positive before squaring, which gives a set shaped like a burning ship, stood upright here. Tricorn flips the imaginary part before squaring, which gives a three-cornered set. |
