code/SDFApollonian

The distance to an Apollonian gasket.

Sdf3d

Returns the estimated distance from a sampled position to an Apollonian gasket: thin curved walls around nested spherical holes, cut to a ball. The twin of geo/SDFApollonian, for use inside a geo/SDFBuilder sub-network. The value is an estimate, so the raymarcher takes shorter steps where it is used.

Parameters

Name Type What it does
P Vector3 Position to sample the field at. Left unwired it reads the builder's own sample position.
t Vector3 Center of the ball the gasket is cut to.
size Float World size of one unit of the pattern, which repeats every 2 units.
radius Float Radius of the ball the gasket is cut to, in pattern units.
strength Float How strongly each step turns space inside out around a sphere. Wire a slowly moving value into it for a shifting pattern.
thickness Float How thick the walls are, in pattern units. At 0 the walls have no inside.
iterations UInt8 How many levels of detail are made. A wired value is capped at 32.
