Battle testing configurators
No new Polygon release this week. Most of the work went into polyreprint.com.
Two new configurators on polyreprint.com
Two new configurators are live: You Low-Poly and Two-Face.
Both use the geo/generativeModel node to generate a model from one or two photos. Photos can be uploaded, captured from the webcam, or dragged and dropped. There is also a not-yet-published node tex/generativeImage that pre-processes the image.
The first configurator then applies a geo/remesh to part of the model.
The second generates two models and converts each to an SDF with geo/SDFCreate. A geo/SDFBuilder blends them, and the result is raymarched in real time, so changes are immediate. When you press download, geo/SDFTriangulate turns it into a mesh.
A better Chess Twist demo
The Chess Twist demo keeps improving, ready for Steam Next Fest on October 19 and the release on November 10. You can play the demo on the web. I’ve worked on the quality of the boards by adding more symmetry modes, and you’ll be able to generate 3D prints from the game. There will also be a configurator for the board and pieces on polyreprint.com.
In the pipeline
Behind the scenes, several tools are at the prototype stage:
- CAD nodes, which I mentioned last week. They run on a custom geometry kernel.
- A new texture viewer, plus new texture nodes for compositing and processing.
- A texture solver and a geo solver, for custom effects such as reaction-diffusion (those organic, coral-like patterns).
None of them are ready yet. But they are moving, and I’ll show them as soon as they’re usable.
As always, tell me what you build, and what is missing. Reply to this email, or say hello in the Discord, Bluesky or Twitter.
