geo/SDFMandelbulb
Creates an SDF Mandelbulb fractal.
Sdf Primitives
Creates a Mandelbulb as SDF geometry: the 3D fractal found by repeatedly raising a point to a power in spherical coordinates and adding it back, keeping the points that never fly off. Power 8 gives the classic bulb. Turn on julia to add a fixed point instead of the sampled one, which gives a whole family of other shapes. Wire it to the geo/Output node to see it raymarched, or compose it with other SDF objects through geo/SDFBoolean and geo/Transform. Dragging the params never recompiles the preview shader. The distance is an estimate, so the raymarcher takes shorter steps around it, and converting it with geo/SDFTriangulate needs a high resolution to catch the detail.
Parameters
| Name | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| t | Vector3 | Center of the bulb. |
| scale | Float | Overall size. At 1 the power 8 bulb is a little over 2 units across. |
| power | Float | Exponent the point is raised to at each step. 8 is the classic bulb, 2 a smooth and lumpy blob, and higher powers add more, thinner lobes. |
| iterations | UInt8 | How many steps each point is followed for. More steps reveal finer detail and cost more per sample. |
| thetaShift | Float | Angle, in degrees, added to the vertical angle at each step. Small values twist and morph the bulb; animate it for a breathing effect. |
| phiShift | Float | Angle, in degrees, added to the horizontal angle at each step. Small values swirl the lobes around the vertical axis. |
| julia | Bool | Add the fixed point below at each step instead of the sampled point, which gives the Julia bulb of that point. |
| juliaC | Vector3 | The fixed point added at each step when julia is on, in bulb units. Points near the bulb's surface give the most intricate shapes. |
